Alice Neel Portraits and Still Lifes

David Zwirner is presenting an exhibition of late portraits and still life paintings at his Chelsea gallery in New York. The works date from 1964 to 1983 and include, among others, Geoffrey Hendricks and Brian, Sherry Speeth and a group of still life paintings rarely shown before. Although Neel is best known for her portraits, she painted still lifes throughout her career, approaching them with the same visual acuity and sense of purpose as her figure subjects. The exhibition runs until 23 June 2012. A catalogue with an essay by Tim Griffin is available from the gallery.
