Alice Neel: Painted Truths was the first major survey exhibition of the work of Alice Neel to be shown in Europe. After its showing at Museum of Fine Arts Houston (March – June 2011) it toured to Whitechapel Gallery, London (July – September and Moderna Museet, Malmö October – January 2011). The exhibition was greeted with acclaim at all three galleries and the catalogue sold out before the show had finished. Yale University Press is reprinting the catalogue in paperback and it will appear in bookshops sometime in February 2011.
The exhibition was chosen by Professor Anne Wagner, writing in Artforum, as the best exhibition of 2010, and among the top ten exhibitions of the year by Laura Cummings in the Observer and Douglas Britt in the Houston Chronicle.
A biography of Alice Neel, Alice Neel. The Art of not Sitting Pretty, by Pheobe Hoban, was published by St Martin’s Press in December 2010.
